IBARAKI TOP TEAM INTERVIEW
Following weigh-ins at the PRIDE Dojo in Tokyo on June 3rd, Ibaraki Top Team members Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, Tatsuya Kawajiri and Mitsuhiro Ishida spoke about their upcoming bouts in the PRIDE BUSHIDO 11 and PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix 2006 Opening Round event.
Interviews With Denis Kang and Murilo "Ninja" Rua
Denis Kang: I really wanted to compete in the Grand Prix and I'm very happy that I can now. There were some easy opponents in last year's Grand Prix but the world's best fighters have gathered for this year's Grand Prix. Everyone here has the ability to finish the fight and the fighter who stands at the top of this Grand Prix stands at the top of the world. Pound-for-pound.
CHONAN TRAINS WITH DAN HENDERSON
Ryo Chonan ventured to America to train under Dan Henderson at the end of last year before the Welterweight Grand Prix. This time, Chonan went back to Henderson's gym to train for about a month, and also trained with Bas Rutten and Eddie Bravo, making the most of the days leading up to the Grand Prix.
Interviews With Akihiro Gono and Hector Lombard
Akihiro Gono: We saw each other at the press conference but our eyes didn't meet. He may have been looking at me. I'm not going to lose a trash-talking battle, though. When I talk, it's ground and pound. (laughing) Hector said something at the press conference like he's going to shut me up in the fight, and I understand that. If he wants to talk though, he's got to beat me first. If I talk this much and screw up the fight, I'll be a clown. It's all or nothing for me.
Interviews With Makoto Takimoto and Gegard Mousasi
Makoto Takimoto: The noise (from Gono)? At first I was wondering what the hell that guy was talking about but I never expected to fight him in the First Round and I'm just going at my own pace. Paulo Filho also asked for me? Why is everyone after my head? (laughing) Well, I guess in a sense I should be happy.
Interviews With Paulo Filho and Gregory Bouchelaghem
Paulo Filho: This was a difficult time for me to prepare. I had to face a lot of difficulties and I overcame them. I'm 100% now. Compared to the hard training that I've been doing, the fight will be easy. The fight ends in a day and compared to training, it's only a short time. The training that I've been doing was really tough, tiring training.
BUSHIDO 11 Interviews With Ryo Chonan and Joey Villasenor
Ryo Chonan: For the first time in a long time, I'm nervous. I'm always thinking about the fight and I was only able to sleep about two or three hours last night. I haven't been like this since the year I made my debut. I've lost twice in PRIDE and I guess it's because I'm worried about the outcome of this fight.
BUSHIDO 11 Interviews With Murilo Bustamante and Amar Suloev
Murilo Bustamante: I've been able to cut weight very well for this match. Actually, it's went too well and lost too much weight last week. I've had a physical trainer looking after me for the last 5 years and I'm careful about my food, in addition to training hard.
Interviews with Denis Kang and Marcus Aurelio
Following weigh-ins at the PRIDE Dojo in Tokyo on June 3rd, American Top Team members Denis Kang and Marcus Aurelio spoke about their upcoming bouts in the PRIDE BUSHIDO 11 and PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix 2006 Opening Round event.
Interviews With Hayato "Mach" Sakurai and Olaf Alfonso
Hayato "Mach" Sakurai: I really wanted to fight with a mask on but they told me I couldn't. It's fine, though, because I rarely get hit. I watch my opponent's fights on tape.
Interviews with Tatsuya Kawajiri and Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett
Tatsuya Kawajiri:I met Bennett at the press conference but he was normal. He was smiling when he came to shake my hand. He said something in English but I didn't understand him.
Interviews With Jason Black and Ou Won Jin
Jason Black: I'm very happy that I will be able to fight in PRIDE. I don't feel any pressure at all. I wasn't forced to come here. I wanted to come here.
