Following the public signing ceremony and weigh-ins for the PRIDE Middleweight title match on November 30 th , DSE President Nobuyuki Sakakibara announced that Greco-Roman wrestling Olympic gold (Sydney) and bronze (Athens) medalist, Rulon Gardner, would participate in this year's New Year's Eve event.

I think the fighters that fought today understand the style of fighting that we are looking for. PRIDE fighters live for fighting. They need to fight. I think that was what motivated them to give us these great matches.

The theme for the 2004 New Year's Eve show will be "SADAME". It is "destiny" in English. Fedor VS Nogueira in a final battle to decide who is the Champion.
Mirko, Hunt, Gomi, Wanderlei Silva and Giant Silva have also been confirmed.

TOKYO, Japan -

The two main events for PRIDE FIGHTING'S New Year's Eve spectacular, SHOCKWAVE, have been announced. In the first bout, the highly anticipated rematch ... for the title of undisputed heavyweight Grand Prix Champion of 2004, Fedor Emelianenko versus Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In the second bout, for the first time in mixed martial arts history and under mixed martial arts rules, it will be Olympic gold medallist versus Olympic gold medallist as Japan's Hidehiko Yoshida (1992 Judo Olympic gold medallist) takes on Rulon Gardner of the United States (2000 Greco Roman Wrestling Olympic gold medallist). Also on the card, Japanese hero Kazushi Sakuraba will face a yet to be named opponent.
