12/09/2005

Dream Stage Entertainment held a press conference in their Tokyo office on December 7 th to announce 3 fights for the PRIDE SHOCKWAVE 2005, to be held at Saitama Super Arena on December 31 st .

PRIDE Middleweight Title Match

Wanderlei Silva (Champion/Chute Boxe Academy)

VS

Ricardo Arona (Challenger/Brazilian Top Team)

The greatest revenge match in history has been decided! Arona finally dethroned Silva in the Semi-Final Round of the Middleweight Grand Prix Tournament in August of this year, and this time, he is going after Silva's Middleweight Championship belt. Silva, on the other hand, enters this fight as both the Middleweight Champion and as the challenger, fighting to avenge his only loss.

Will Silva get his revenge and prove once again that he is the strongest in the Middleweight Division or will Arona take everything away from him? This will be an extreme revenge match between striker and grappler.

Heavyweight Match

Fedor Emelianenko (Red Devil)

VS

Zulu (B-TOUGH)

For Fedor, having just proved that he is the strongest Heavyweight in the world when he beat Mirko Filipovic, this will be an unusual match. Fedor's opponent is Zulu, son of legendary fighter Rei Zulu. Zulu came to Japan for the first time to compete in October's PRIDE 30 and he quickly became a popular fighter with his gentle giant attitude. Although Zulu has more than 30 local MMA fights under his belt, this will become his first major fight in PRIDE.

For Zulu, who wants "to be the future PRIDE Champion" this is a dream match. If Zulu is aiming for the top, he's found it in Fedor but will Zulu be able to climb this mountain?

Heavyweight Match

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (Team Cro Cop)

VS

Mark Hunt (Oceana Super Fighter Gym)

Both fighters are originally K-1 fighters and the one time they met in the K-1 ring, Mirko left the victor. Hunt has continued to ask for a revenge match since he joined PRIDE.

This will be match between top strikers but this won't be a simple striking match. This fight will be under PRIDE rules and now that both fighters have experience in MMA fighters, we are sure to see a fight different than before.
