I feel really good. I don't have any injuries, so I feel like I can fight even more.
Pride:
Unfortunately, you weren't able to enter the Open Weight Grand Prix as a reservist. What do you think about that?
Emelianenko:
I wanted to fight, of course, but I think it was fate. I didn't want to simply fight in the Grand Prix Final Round. I wanted to win.
Pride:
What did you work on after your last loss to prepare for this fight?
Emelianenko:
Not making the same mistake twice. I had a fever and was tired before (my fight with) Josh. I didn't make that mistake again.
Pride:
Did your brother give you any advice?
Emelianenko:
He told me to bring a win home.
Pride:
Has anything changed in Kharitonov since he was your teammate?
Emelianenko:
We trained at different places now. I hope he will learn how to properly treat people that he used to train with. I think he learned a good lesson about being human.
Pride:
Did he do something to make you angry?
Emelianenko:
He was affected by a lot of things from Fedor and from a sportsmanship point-of-view, I couldn't believe that he was saying he is going to finish us.
Pride:
I think your brother will be your biggest rival in the future. What will you work on to be able to beat your brother?
Emelianenko:
I'll think about that once a fight has been confirmed.
Pride:
Who do you think will win the Final Round today? [Note: this interview was taken before the end of the event.]
Emelianenko:
Both fighters are strong so I can't predict the winner. I think the winner will be the fighter than has trained the most and wants to win the most.
Pride:
Since you recently lost to Josh, do you hope someone will beat him?
Emelianenko:
I'm confident that I could beat him if I were competing.
Pride Fighting Championships:
You had a blank look immediately after the fight finished. What was the reason for that? Do you have any memory from that time?
Sergei Kharitonov:
There are no problems with my condition. It was a battle for Russia and I regret letting this chance slip away.
I don't have any injuries from the fight. I've had a lot of time off since the fight in which I was injured. This is the first step back. I was in my normal condition coming into this fight.
I have been trained in the military and I was ready to fight until the end. The fight is part of a business event though, so I understand that the decision to stop the fight was appropriate.
I was as excited as always, so it didn't bother me. It's unfortunate that my first fight after my injury ended like this. I want to begin training for my next fight.
Pride:
What did you and Alexander say to each other after the fight?
What Alexander said is not a correct way of thinking. We were connected as sports athletes. Athletes often go to other gyms and I don't think that is anything special. I respect their techniques. I think this was a great comeback match. Next time, I want to give an even better fight.
