No, I'm just like the most nonchalant person you could ever meet. What you see is what you get. Some people don't like me because I joke around too much or I have a dirty mouth. My mom is always yelling at me about my mouth. She always watches me fight and she tells me that I should watch my mouth.
he environment you grow up in is what you're going to be. If I had grown up around people who wore their clothes backwards, I'd be like Kriss Kross. But you grow up around people with bad mouths, it's going to come out whether you want it or not. But, I'm nonchalant. I don't care what people think about me. I don't go around judging people. I wish people wouldn't judge me.
'm going to be me. I live my life to make me happy, not other people. I've got some friends that want to do things but they are worried about what other people are going to say. In high school, a lot of guys wanted to be wrestlers but they didn't like the singlets we had to wear. "Ohh, people are going to think I'm gay." "People are going to laugh at me. I'm worried about what my friends will say." But, they were good athletes, football players. We would wrestle around in the halls and some of these guys could take me down. I told them to come out for the wrestling team but they didn't want to wear the singlet. He wanted to wrestle but he couldn't because he was worried about what other people would think.
You have a lot of honesty and integrity. Who did you get that from?
It was the way I was brought up. My dad taught me to be honest. Be honest. Your word is all you have. If people can't trust what you say, you don't have anything. You can tell anybody anything and they won't believe you. I don't want to be that kind of person. I want to be me. I dislike deceitful people. I just don't want to be around them.
You seem different before this fight than you did before your fight with Kevin.
Well, it's kind of weird. I was hoping to fight Wanderlei. I beat Randleman to get where I am but now I'm fighting this guy. At first I was like "no, I'm not going to fight" but my manager and coach said it would be good for me. I'll get more experience and keep the rust off. And I take chances so I'm going in here to fight and get better. That's my job to fight and get better, even though I'm not fighting Wanderlei. It's just different. At first you're thinking you're about to get the belt in June. I thought I'd be the Champion and planned a trip back home to Memphis. I trained hard for this fight.
You were really laid back before the last fight but you're a little testy now.
Yeah, I feel focused. I'm not nervous or afraid of this guy. I was just looking forward to fighting Wanderlei. I see him walking around here. He looks fine to me. It's weird. He wanted to fight me the day I called him out. I didn't say anything disrespectful to him and he wanted to push me and fight me. He wanted to fight me then but now he wants to wait. I saw him partying the other day and he was fine. I'm not even worrying about him, though. He's intimidated all his other opponents but I've never been intimidated in my entire life. I'm not worried about him. I'm nonchalant. We'll fight when we fight.
Do you think it's possible that you are looking past this fight?
No, I'm not. I'm just disappointed. I would never underestimate this guy. His best thing is my worst thing. Anything can happen. I could be beating the shit out of him and he could go for something and it'd all be over.
