TOTAL ELIMINATION 2004 PRE-FIGHT INTERVIEWS
06/20/2004
Nino Schembri
Pride Fighting Championships:
How long have you been with Chute Boxe?
Nino Schembri:
4 months.
Pride:
How has that helped you as a fighter?
Schembri:
I've been doing a lot of standup with muay thai and combining it with my ground skills. It creates more opportunities to use my strengths.
Pride:
Has your standup improved?
Schembri:
Good enough for Sakuraba.
Pride:
What do you think you will have to do to get the same result this time?
Schembri:
I've been training 3 times/day. I've got excellent instructors and coaches, now. I'm better than I was the last time. At that time, I was just concerned about defending.
Pride:
Do you think you can submit him if it goes to the ground?
Schembri:
If we go to the ground and Sakuraba doesn't stand up right away, of course I will try to submit him.
Pride:
What do you like to do when you are not training?
Schembri:
Surfing. I go to Hawaii a lot.
Pride:
Have you ever seen a shark when you were surfing?
Schembri:
No.
Pride:
How much do you think you've improved since you joined Chute Boxe, on a scale of 1 to 5?
Schembri:
6. I'm not world class but I've improved.
Pride:
What was your number when you started?
Schembri:
Maybe 3.
Pride:
Ok, 100% improvement.
Schembri:
I live in the Academy and train 3 times/day.
Pride:
You are a two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion?
Schembri:
No. Five-time. Two-time World Jiu-Jitsu Champion. I fought there 3 times, went to the finals 3 times and won twice.
Pride:
You won the Most Technical Award at Abu Dhabi?
Schembri:
Yes.
