Henry "Sentoryu" MillerHenry Miller, better known by his nickname of "Sentoryu" (which means the fighting dragon), is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. In high school, Miller was a tremendous football player and coveted by many major universities. Unfortunately, a knee injury ended the scholarship offers and his football dreams. In 1988, at the age of 19, "Sentoryu" moved to Japan to pursue a career in Japan's national sport of Sumo. Through the course of his Sumo career, Miller was enormously successful and competed in over 700 bouts. At the time of his retirement, he was the last American (and only mainland American), to reach the lofty status of "sekitori." Now retired from Sumo, Miller is looking to make himself and Sumo known in the world of mixed martial arts. His Sumo background provides a natural take down defense, the strength to push opponents, and such Sumo moves as the "harite" (open handed strike). Miller has been training at the world-renowned Takada Dojo in Japan in order to improve his grappling, boxing, and cardio, but physically he possesses many of the skills needed to succeed in MMA. Miller's father is American and his mother is Japanese. |
