Hidehiko Yoshida

Hidehiko Yoshida

Hidehiko Yoshida is a legend in the word of Judo. This Japanese star has successfully competed in the Judo World Championships and the Olympics, which includes a gold medal in the 1992 Barcelona Games (he won all six of his matches by ippon). Upon his retirement from Judo he started his own gym, the Yoshida Dojo. Intent on proving the effectiveness of Judo, Yoshida began training for a career in mixed martial arts. Thus far he has been successful, as he has garnered wins against Don Frye, Masaaki Satake, and Kiyoshi Tamura. But perhaps his most memorable match was a controversial submission victory against Royce Gracie at Shockwave 2002, a match that re-ignited an old rivalry between Judo and Gracie Jiu Jitsu. A word of advice when competing against Yoshida---avoid the clinch!
