Ricco "Suave" RodriguezThe mixed martial arts career of Ricco Rodriguez has roots in wrestling ... in the 1990s he was one of the most highly decorated high school wrestlers in the state of New York. From there he moved to California and began training in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with the Machado Brothers. After just a short time of training, his success in Jiu Jitsu came quickly ... he won numerous prestigious Jiu Jitsu tournaments and eventually went on to win a gold medal at the Abu Dhabi Submission Championships. With his Jiu Jitsu background, Rodriguez then embarked on a career in mixed martial arts and successfully defeated some of the sport's toughest fighters including, in PRIDE FC, Gary Goodridge, Giant Ochiai, and John Marsh and, in the UFC, Andrei Arlovski, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, and Randy Couture. Though he relies primarily on his wrestling and Jiu Jitsu abilities, he has also gone out of his way to cross train with some of the notables of the sport including Mark Kerr, the Takada Dojo, and Tito Ortiz. |
